Have you ever seen a dog or cat at an airport? Perhaps a toy breed in a little purse-like carrier or a larger dog in a full size crate. Pet owners are occasionally faced the the dilemma of what to do with their pets when the need for travel arise. And, inevitably, everyone must travel.
To someone who has never tried it, pet travel can seem like a complex and difficult thing to try. How does one go about figuring out the logistics?
Well, you can start with this article.
Easy Steps for Pet Travel
First, consider your pet’s personality. Animals are like humans in a lot of ways, including emotional temperaments. Some animals won’t mind being left with a pet sitter or in a boarding kennel. Others can go into great distress and depression if you’re gone for more than a weekend. If your pet is sensitive, consider taking him or her with you. It’s easier than you might think.
Flying
If you’re taking to the skies on your next trip and want to take your animal with you, you’ll need to use an airline that accommodates pet travel. This information is easily found on the websites of individual airline websites. We also have a current list of these airlines on our site. Save yourself a few extra minutes of research and start there!
Once you find your airline and book your flight, see the airline’s website for specific instructions on checking in with your pet. You will likely need to check in earlier, and go to the counter instead of using the little self-check in kiosks. Plan accordingly.
Hotels
Unless you plan to stay in a private residence with friends or family, you’ll need to consider pet travel in your accommodation plans. It used to be that traveling with pets relegated you to bed-and-breakfasts off the wayside, further away from the center of attractions of sacrificing the conveniences of a larger hotel. We are happy to report this is no longer the case! While you can certainly still find little, quite places to stay with your pet if you want, you actually have a choice. More and more national hotel chains are beginning to accommodate pet travel.
