Looking to save money, but still want to take a nice vacation? Forget about expensive boarding kennels and pet sitters. Take your animal with you and when possible, stay in pet friendly motels.

While motels are not designed as places to take extended vacations, they do come in handy for short stays. When you have a long layover in a city or if on a road trip, pet friendly motels come in especially handy. Most are comfortable and allow you and your pet a place to rest your head and to get a good night’s sleep without a lot of fuss. If you travel on the road a lot, you will find the U.S. highways are dotted with pet friendly motels. Unlike hotels, many don’t charge a cleaning fee and if they do, it is usually minimal. Quality Inn & Suites

This hotel brand is part of the Choice Hotels International chain. This is one of the largest hospitality companies in the world, with 6,200 hotels in the U.S. alone. It also has hotels in more than 30 countries. There are many amenities, however, you can consistantly count on free high speed Internet access and a free hot breakfast. Two of its hotels, the Quality Inn & Suites, Waco, TX and Quality Inn Chihuahua San Francisco, Chihuahua, Mexico both received the Hotel of the Year–a recognition by hotel owner’s organizations. Roadway Inn

This pet friendly hotel brand also is owned by Choice Hotels International. These are typically known for being centrally located in the heart of a city or near a highway. The rooms are basic and guest ratings deem them clean. As with many pet friendly motels, the Roadway Inn provides a place for you and your pet to get sleep.

Motel 6

This motel brand dots the map of the entire U.S. Many accept pets and are located near a cafe or restaurant, making it easy to sleep, eat and get back on the road. The don’t offer any freebies like Internet access or breakfast. However, many do have in-room cable TV with HBO.

Super 8

Compared to many other motels, the Super 8 typically has more ammenities including high-speed Internet access, seasonally heated pools, business centers with HSIA in the lobby, in-room coffee makers, satellite TV with HBO, and guest laundry.

Vagabond Inn

These hotels have ranked fairly high for their cleanliness and friendly staffs. They typically are quite and the parking easily accessible. The beds are known to be comfortable and the locations ideal.
