Pet-Friendly Lodging Makes it Easy to Bring Your Best Friend
It’s true! It can be cheaper to bring your pet along with you on your next trip than not! Find out why, and how to find the right pet-friendly lodging that suits your needs. There’s plenty of pet-friendly hotels within the U.S. Check out this video to get a taste of what pet-friendly hotels are willing to do to make your pet-travels easy and enjoyable.
It’s spring! The first flowers are starting to bud, the snow is melting, and a breath of summer is on the air. In other words, time to start planning those summer trips! Summer is the heaviest travel season of the year, and for good reason: the kids are out of school, the weather is cooperative, and more people actually want to be out doing things.
As you plan your trips – maybe a few weddings this year, a family reunion – you’re going to find ways to do it economically. Even with the national financial situation improving, we’re all still trying to save where we can.
One way of saving that may not have occurred to you is taking your pet with you on your spring and summer adventures. Most people leave their dogs and cats at home with pet sitters, with family, or in a boarding kennel because they think it’s the most economical and practical option.
But boarding kennels can be expensive, especially if you plan to be away for a week or more. A pet sitter doesn’t guarantee that your pet will get the attention it needs. Animals left to themselves too long easily develop anxiety or depressive tendencies, which can make them act out in unexpected ways.
Not only is it better for your animal, but it’s often cheaper to take your pet with you. There are many options for pet-friendly lodging, including hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, and independent vacation rentals. Most of them charge a nominal fee for the duration of your stay; so, if you spend a week at the lake, you’d actually be saving yourself money by taking your dog or cat with you!
When researching pet-friendly lodging, check to see if there are weight restrictions, limits on the number of animals you may bring, or any other policies. Some places charge a little more for larger breed dogs, some hotels and motels require your animal to be crated while your room is being cleaned.
It should be fairly easy for your pet to accommodate to new surroundings, as long as he is with his family. Consider bringing some old sheets or blankets from home, to provide comfort for more sensitive animals.
