A Good Pet Airline Truly Cares About Your Pet
Don’t like to have your animal fly in the cargo hold? There are other options!
It’s one of the biggest problems of pet parents: the travel dilemma. Everyone has to travel at least once or twice a year. Whether it’s for the holidays, weddings, business or any other occasion, travel is a necessity of life.
The problems occurs when trying to decide what to do with pets during times of travel. Pet owners – or, pet parents, as is increasingly common – are often uneasy with leaving their furry family members behind. We know that animals are thinking, feeling creatures: separation anxiety is real, even when the dog or cat is left with familiar people and is allowed to stay in its home.
For those people who are tired to pet sitters and boarding kennels, dealing with airlines seems like the only option. And yet, even pet friendly airlines are not idea: unless you have a small animal that can fit in a case beneath the seat in front of you, your dog will be required to spend the flight in the cargo area. Even for mild-mannered and calm dogs, spending a few hours in the cargo area is not pleasant. Furthermore, travel to certain destinations in the summer or winter is restricted for animals, due to intolerable conditions in the cargo area.
So, is there a solution to this problem? Or are pet parents supposed to choose between mediocre options?
Introducing the Pet Airline
Necessity is the mother of invention, they say. And so, several solutions to the animal travel problem are, at last, available. You can now have your choice of pet airline! What is a pet airline? Like the name implies, it is a commercial flight company that allows animals to fly in the cabin. Several companies exist and operate today, in most major airports of the United States. Options range from flights exclusively for animals – you drop them off at the airport and pick them up at your destination, flights where animals sit alongside their owners, and so on.
Booking is easy. First, go to our listings page to see a list of pet airlines. See which ones service your local airport and the one for your destination. Keep in mind, as this is still a rather new service, prices can range from affordable to quite expensive. However, if you feel it is worth it to travel with your pet in total comfort, then there are options available to you.
Be sure to do your research and book your flight well in advance. Your animal will need to be current on all vaccinations and physicals. Carry copies of the medical documentation, just to make the actual boarding as smooth as possible. Don’t be afraid to include specifics on your animals dietary habits and moods: on a pet airline, the animal is the customer!
